March 28-April 21: Exhibits at Waddington Galleries in London.

April 5, 1990-March 3, 1991: The Dia Art Foundation in New York hosted an exhibition titled "John Chamberlain: Gondolas and Dooms Day Flotilla." The exhibition featured his seven-part work "Dooms Day Flotilla" from 1982 and seven out of twelve gondolas, including "Gondola Henry Wadsworth Longfellow," "Gondola Herman Melville," and others.

May 9-June 23: Participates in the exhibition "American Masters of the 60s" at Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York.

May 16: Elected as a member of the Art Department to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. An exhibition to celebrate new members was held in the academy's New York galleries, and Chamberlain presented three new sculptures.

June 17-October 28: His work "Memorial to Lost Souls at Sea" (1980-81) was installed at Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island, New York, as part of the Snug Harbor Festival.

September 8- October 14: Participates in the exhibition "Art Meets Science and Spirituality in a Changing Economy" at Museum Fodor in Amsterdam. Chamberlain was chosen by Ton van Summeren to collaborate on the theme expressed in the exhibition's title.

November 20, 1990-February 20, 1991: Participates in the Seoul Art Festival, where he received an Honorary Prize.

He also designed dinnerware made from cast ceramics, using automotive parts as inspiration. The set included plates, an hors d'oeuvres tray, a pulley saucer, a piston cup, and serving pieces, each glazed in a unique color palette.

January 12-February 16: Participates in the exhibition "20th Century Collage" at Margo Leavin Gallery in Los Angeles.

January 19-February 9: There was an exhibition of his works on paper from 1982/83 at Galerie Fred Jahn in Stuttgart, focusing on the "Sprays - Gondola-Series - Giraffe-Skin-Series."

March 8-April 13: He had exhibitions titled "John Chamberlain: New Sculpture" and "John Chamberlain: Monotypes" at The Pace Gallery and Pace Editions in New York.

April 13-June 16: He took part in the exhibition "Motion as Metaphor: The Automobile in Art" at the Virginia Beach Center for the Arts in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

May 11-July 21: A major retrospective exhibition titled "John Chamberlain" was held at Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden. The exhibition later traveled to Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The retrospective included sculptures, Widelux photographs, a special couch, and the film "The Secret Life of Hernando Cortez."

May 23-June 29: There was a John Chamberlain exhibition at Galerie Karsten Greve in Paris.

June 18-August 30: He participated in "Constructing American Identity" at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Downtown Branch in New York.

September: He began creating the "Baby Tycoons" series of small sculptures inspired by chocolate truffle boxes.

October 7-December 10: An exhibition titled "Famous Last Words and Works on Paper" was held at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. This included a collaborative portfolio of lithographs and poems.

December 1991-January 11, 1992: Chamberlain was part of a group exhibition at Holly Solomon Gallery in New York.

February 7-March 22: He participated in "Stars in Florida" at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

February 22-March 21: There was a John Chamberlain exhibition at Daniel Weinberg Gallery in Los Angeles.

April 2-May 9: He took part in the inaugural exhibition "Psycho" at KunstHall in New York.

April 2-May 11 :Another exhibition of his work was held at Galleria Seno in Milan.

On May 9: Chamberlain was honored at the 125th-anniversary gala for the Art Institute of Chicago. His work was displayed in the exhibition "From America's Studio: Twelve Contemporary Masters."

June 19-September 20: He participated in "Territorium Artist" organized by Pontus Hulten in Bonn, Germany.

A couple of exhibitions took place in August: "John Chamberlain: New Sculpture" at Laura Carpenter Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and "John Chamberlain: New Work" at Dia Art Foundation, Dan Flavin Art Institute in Bridgehampton, New York.

In September, his works on paper were exhibited at Galerie Meyer-Ellinger in Frankfurt.

October 24-November 28: His "Recent Work" was displayed at The Pace Gallery in New York.

October 29, 1992-January 29, 1993: An exhibition titled "John Chamberlain: Skulpturen 1967-1989" was held at Galerie Six Friedrich in Munich.

November 14, 1992-February 27, 1993: "John Chamberlain: Neue Skulpturen" was presented at Galerie Karsten Greve in Cologne. This exhibition included sculptures and Widelux photographs.

Chamberlain created a book called "Conversations with Myself," containing his musings and poetry from 1989, as well as drypoint self-portraits.

Artist Chuck Close painted a portrait of Chamberlain using his signature grid-style composition, based on a photographic source.
